Description

Class Overview

Turn up the heat on Wednesday night and make something that never needs watering.

In this colorful, hands-on evening torchworking class, students will use real flame and molten borosilicate glass to create beautiful glass flowers inspired by the natural shapes, colors, and movement of flower petals.

Held Wednesdays from 6:00 PM–8:00 PM in the Robert Bank Glass studio at Remlinger Farms, this two-hour experience is designed for complete beginners as well as students with previous torchworking experience.

Students will learn how individual pieces of molten glass can be shaped, colored, stretched, and assembled into an organic floral form. Special emphasis will be placed on creating petals, controlling symmetry and movement, applying color, and bringing multiple glass elements together into one finished design.

Students will create their own colorful glass flower artwork to take home, with each finished piece reflecting the colors, shapes, and personality of the person who made it.

No prior experience is necessary. Whether you’re looking for a creative evening out, trying glassworking for the first time, or ready to explore a new torchworking technique, this class offers a completely different way to spend a Wednesday night.

**All students MUST arrive 30 minutes prior to class for check-in, waiver approval and to grab your seat – NO EXCEPTIONS**

Glass Flowers

Learn how to heat and shape molten glass into individual petals, introduce color, create organic curves and movement, and carefully bring the separate elements together into a finished floral form.

Students will explore how subtle changes in heat, pressure, color, and shaping can create dramatically different results, making every flower completely unique.

Every project is handmade, ensuring that no two creations will ever be exactly alike.*

*Everybody’s artwork will look different. The product image is a representation of the style of glass flowers created in class.

Why Take This Class?

Working with glass is more than simply making something beautiful. Students often discover that torchworking encourages:

  • Focus and concentration
  • Creativity and self-expression
  • Patience and perseverance
  • Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
  • An understanding of color, balance, and organic form
  • Confidence through creating something entirely by hand

There is something wonderfully strange about taking a rigid glass rod, introducing it to several thousand degrees of persuasion, and watching a flower emerge.

No soil. No watering. No aphids.

Just fire, glass, color, and a Wednesday night very well spent.
