Beginner Torchworking Experience: Carving & Shaping Glass

Class Overview

Discover the beauty of sculpting molten glass in this fun, hands-on introductory torchworking experience. Designed for complete beginners, this one-hour class introduces students to the art of shaping and carving borosilicate glass using a torch while exploring techniques that create texture, detail, and dimension.

In this class, we’ll place special emphasis on glass carving and sculpting techniques, allowing students to experience how molten glass can be manipulated into elegant, nature-inspired designs.

Each participant will create and take home two unique glass pieces:

  • A Clear Leaf Necklace Pendant

  • A Color Swirl Heart Pendant

No prior experience is necessary. This class is perfect for anyone looking to explore a new creative hobby, enjoy a unique artistic experience, or discover the fascinating world of glass art.

What You’ll Learn

During this experiential class, students will be introduced to:

Project Details

Students will work with both clear and colored borosilicate glass to create:

Clear Leaf Necklace Pendant

Learn how to shape, carve, and texture clear glass into a beautiful leaf design while practicing techniques that give your piece depth and natural detail.

Color Swirl Heart Pendant

Explore the art of introducing color into molten glass while creating a vibrant heart pendant featuring beautiful swirling patterns. This project teaches color placement, shaping, and finishing techniques that make every piece completely unique.

Every project is handmade, ensuring that no two creations are ever exactly alike.*

Who Can Attend?

  • Ages 11 and older
  • Beginners welcome
  • No previous glassworking experience required
  • Maximum 8 students per class for personalized instruction

What to Wear

For your safety and comfort:

  • Closed-toe shoes are required
  • No sandals or open-toed footwear
  • ONLY wear cotton clothing, no polyester/nylon allowed
  • Long hair must be tied back
  • Avoid loose, flowing clothing around the torch area
  • Please refrain from wearing heavy perfumes or fragrances

Safety glasses and all necessary materials will be provided.
